Many people enjoy both reading books and watching movies. Some students prefer watching movies because it is easy and does not take much time; you just sit down, watch, and everything is shown to you.
But reading books is different; you have to read slowly and understand the story by yourself. In my opinion, reading books is better than watching movies. This is because books help us learn more, think better, and even improve our way of speaking and writing.

Why Book Reading?

A book is a number of pieces of paper, usually with words printed on them, which are fastened together and fixed inside a cover of stronger paper or cardboard.
Books are a global phenomenon and, like stories, they belong to everyone. No singular set of characters, nor type of story, has any authority over another. Just like all cultures and histories, all stories have a place in the bookcases of the libraries of the world.
Book reading as an activity serves as a tool for the transfer of information and knowledge from one generation to another, and also a medium of communication across geographical location, age, language, and continent.
Why Watching Movies?
A film, also known as a movie or a motion picture, is a series of moving images shown on a screen, usually with sound, that make up a story according to vocabulary. It can also be defined as a recording of moving images that tell a story and that people watch on a screen or television.
A movie simply transfers information and knowledge through motion graphics, unlike books that are transferred through written means; they are both similar as they serve as a medium of communication and transferring of knowledge from the sender to the receiver, but as stated earlier, they have differences.
Points Why Reading Books is Better Than Watching Movies

In this article, I am going to explain why I believe reading books is better than watching movies with the following points.
1. Books Improve Our Imagination
When we read books, we use our minds to imagine everything in the story. The writer does not show us pictures, so we have to create the pictures in our heads by ourselves. This makes our imagination stronger.
For example, when reading a story, you can imagine how the house looks, what the road is like, or how the characters dress.
2. Books Help Us Learn New Words
Reading books helps us learn many new words. When we see new words again and again, we start to understand them and use them. This helps us speak and write better in school, and it can also help us understand what teachers are saying.
For example, when reading a story, you may see a new word and later understand it from the sentence.
3. Books Improve Our Thinking
Reading makes us think more. We follow the story step by step and try to understand what is going on. Sometimes, we even try to guess what will happen next. This helps our brain to work better and become active.
For example, while reading books, you may try to predict or guess how the story will end before finishing the book.
4. Books Give More Details
Books explain things in a deeper way; they tell us more about the characters, their feelings, and what is happening inside their mind. The plot twists and many others. Movies sometimes skip some parts or make the story shorter, but books give full explanations.
For example, a book may explain why a character is sad, but a movie may just show the person crying without explaining it further.
5. Books Help Us Focus Better
Reading needs full attention; you have to sit down and concentrate on what you are reading. This helps you build good focus. When you learn to focus while reading, it also helps you in class and during exams.
For example, when reading a book, you must stay focused so you can understand the story from beginning to end.
6. Books Are Calm and Not Distracting
Books are very quiet and calm, there is no noise, no loud sound, and no fast action like in movies. This makes it easier for the mind to relax and understand better. Movies can sometimes distract us with too many things happening at once.
For example, when watching a movie, loud sounds or action scenes may distract you, or it may make it feel boring, but reading is peaceful and enjoyable.
7. Books Can Be Read Anytime
Books are very easy to carry and use; you can read a book anywhere, whether in school, at home, or even outside. You do not need internet, electricity, or a device to read a book.
For example, you can read a book during break time or when there is no power at home, but you need power or electricity to watch movies.
8. Books Help Us Become Better Students
Students who read books often do better in school. This is because reading improves their understanding, vocabulary, and thinking ability, and it also helps them answer questions better and understand their subjects.
For example, a student who reads often may find it easier to understand passages and answer questions in exams.
Why are books better than movie quotes?
In conclusion, I think books are better than films. Books develop your imagination, are much more detailed than films, improve your English writing and are proven to help you get better jobs.
What are the side effects of too much reading?
However exaggerated (or ridiculous) this stereotype is, reading is indeed associated with eye strain and comes at the expense of exercise and other physical activities. Frequently related are poor diets and digestive problems, an unwelcome weight gain or loss, and generalised exhaustion.
What happens to your brain if you read every day?
Reading strengthens cognitive processes.
Cognitive processes help us learn new things. Neuroscientists say that reading actually strengthens your brain, even after you’ve moved on to something else.
Conclusion
In this article, I have shared with you the definition of book reading and its difference from movies. I also shared reasons why book reading is better than spending minutes or hours on movies. I am not cancelling movies, as they have different roles to play in entertaining us and giving us exposure.
Reading books has many benefits compared to watching movies; it helps us imagine, learn new words, think better, and stay focused. It also helps us become better students and understand things more clearly.
This topic is important because many students today prefer watching movies instead of reading books. By reading this article, students can learn why reading books is better and be encouraged to start reading more books in their daily life.
